What
is a "domain"?
Domains are Web Addresses. You probably have seen all
your favorite stores, restaurants, and special interests with their name on the
World Wide Web! They look like this - "www.NICregistration.com"
!
How
can I have one?
Anybody can have one! You don't have to have a business
or organization to have one! In fact, many people are getting them just for themselves
and their families! But you better hurry, they're going fast!
What
are the rules for names?
Names cannot be more than 67 characters long,
including the dot(.), and the extensions, (.com, .org, .net and .info). Letters, numbers,
and the dash(-) are all acceptable, but you can't begin or end the name with the
dash.
What
if the one I want isn't available?
With so many people and businesses
registering their names everyday, you may have to become more creative to find
the one that's just right for you! Remember, you can't use trademark names or
any names that are indecent or that others may find objectionable. On our search
page, you may choose to use our excellent Domain Name Wizard, a tool that can
help you search different word combinations quickly to find a free domain name
that suits your business or personal needs! If you still have trouble finding
a name and would like some help, please email
us for more help.
What
is "parking"?
"Parking" is what many people do when they don't have
a use for their domains yet. In order to register a domain though, you must have
a name server to put it on. See the next question.
What
is a name server?
A name server is where your domain/website is kept so
that the rest of the world will be able to find you! If you have a website already,
that you want to use with your new domain, you should check with your ISP for
the name and address of their servers. If you don't have a site yet, please leave
the default servers settings on the registration form, and we will park your domain
for free until you are ready to use it! See the next question.
How
do I find a Webhost?
If you need a webhost, please email us - we have
fast webhosting packages, starting as low as $12.50/month. Ecommerce packages
available too.
Can
I do multiple registrations?
Yes, but at this time, you must fill
out a form for each name.
What
is an "NIC" Handle?
If you have ever registered a domain name in the past,
you may have been assigned or 'given' an InterNIC "handle" or "ID" . That way,
you would not have to 're-fill' the information each time you submitted a request
for a new domain name. You may enter that handle on the registration form wherever
a "contact" person is called for (such as the Administrative Contact
responsible for the domain). If this is the first time that you are submitting
a request, you will not have a handle to use. However, after you register a domain
name, you will be assigned or given a 'handle' that you can use to simplify future
registrations. When you receive a final email confirmation from us, you will find
the handle in parenthesis, after your contact names shown in the confirmation.
The handle takes the form of 3 letters plus 2 to 4 numbers (such as ABC9901).
